It is more common for Tilia tomentosa to have a single trunk, but there was a time with "Clump Lindens" were popular.

Indentification features

• Habit: young trees are pyramidal; older trees pyramidal- oval to upright-oval
• Bark: young trees trunk smooth, light grey; mature trees heavily furrowed
• Leaves; alternate, simple, sub-cordate, abruptly accuminate tip, cordate to nearly truncate base.
• Leaf color: lusterous dark green on upper surface (may be tomentose on young leaves, silvery tomentose below (color in photos partly depends on lighting conditions)
• Buds: green-red-brown, often covered with short pubescence.
• Flowers: late June, early July, yellowish white, fragrant, may be last Tilia to flower; bract 1.5 to 2.5 inches long; 7-10 flowered, pendulous cymes.
• Fruit - egg shaped with short point, whitish pubescence, green turning to brown, faintly 5-angled
