- Leaves
- Alternate, simple, deciduous, assymetrical at base, abruptly pointed

- Yellow-green in late summer
- Red in winter
- Lopsided
- Flowers
- Creamy yellow on long slender stalks attached to bracts
- Fruit
- Small, wooly, hard, round, may persist with bract through the winter.
