This bush is located at Q-56/60-13, on the east side of Meadow Lake at Morton Arboretum. The ground around it may be very wet in the spring. Look for inch-wide, white flower clusters in July and August. These photos of Cephalanthus occidentalis where taken in mid July. Once the flowers on this shrub, the bees will also appear, so take care! This plant is located at S-51/69-90, along the path near the picnic area by the visitors' center Parking Lot 1. This photo of the buttonbush shows then green seed clusters. Photo taken in mid November Cephalanthus occidentalis This shrub was grown from seed received in 1980, collected in the wild in Michigan. Look for inch-wide, white flower clusters in July and August, then green seed clusters ripening to red in September. These globular flowers and fruit are the "buttons". Native to wetlands of eastern Canada and of U.S. from Minnesota to Main, south to Texas and Florida.
